Sihanoukville - Phnom Penh
The bus station in Sihanoukville was typical of Cambodia. A dusty square where the tuk-tuk drivers try to cheat tourists. Following the recommendation of my guide, I chose the orchid guesthouse at the beach Ochheuteal. The tuk tuk driver wanted $ 6. I told him that I would go for $ 6 there on foot.
A motorcycle-taxi (actually a moped) wanted only $ 2. That sounded reasonable. It is not as comfortable in the back seat of a moped, when a dwarf leaves. But still go a lot better than walking.
The orchid guest house had old, spacious rooms for $ 40. That to me is far too expensive. I went next door. Here I got a room for $ 20 - still expensive, but better. The room looked ok out - tired and exhausted, I took it.
An air conditioner can be something great. After a bit of me had cooled, I went to the beach. Ochheuteal the beach in Sihanoukville is pretty cool - 3 miles of fine white sand. One end of the beach, near the village of Sihanoukville is full of restaurants and people. has a 10 minute walk later to the Ochheuteal beach almost to yourself. I enjoyed the sun, it was blowing a light breeze. I felt for the first time in many years on holiday.
